Climate Of Bhutan

Bhutan climate is diverse due to its different variation in elevation of the mountains and hills present in the country. The central part of the country is characterized by river valleys with cool winters, hot summers between June to September, and experience moderate rainfall. The southern foothills areas of the country have a sub-tropical climate with high humanity, heavy rainfall, and average temperature. The northern part of the country is characterized by snow-capped peaks, and alpine meadows and experiences cold winter and cool summer.

Bhutan Climate
With such a variation in climate, Bhutan's weather is broadly classified into four different type’s spring, summer, Autumn & Winter.

Spring

As spring makes its way to Bhutan, the county turns into an enchanting display of colors as the rhododendron and other flowers start blooming with all their grace. The valley also starts to turn greener and it is an ideal time to visit and explore the outdoors of Bhutan and adore the untouched beauty of Bhutan. The spring brings happiness and creates an opportunity to trek and hike some of the pristine parts of Bhutan. March, April & May brings the spring season to Bhutan.


Summer

June, July & August brings summer to Bhutan gradually from June you witness the rise in temperature it reaches its peak in July month and continues to remain till August. Through the arrival of the Monsoon people, animals, birds, and the valley get relief from the hot summer of Bhutan. Amongst all the corners of Bhutan, the Southern part of the country receives more rain and becomes little hostile for travelers.


Autumn

The tail end of September marks the season of autumn in Bhutan. By this time the heat level comes down and gets stable enough to make the surrounding calm and promises all sorts of tourism in the country. With the beginning of the season, the skies start to get clear and the temperature remains pleasant which would be an ideal time for visiting and exploring Bhutan. Autumn in Bhutan starts in September and continues till November.


Winter

December, January & February During these months the days get little warm sunlight and the night is cold. During this season Northern Bhutan receives heavy snowfall, as a result, life through high passes like Dochula, Pele la & Chele la becomes more stagnant.


Best Time To Visit Bhutan

According to experts and local guides, the best time to visit Bhutan is from October to December when the sky is clear and fresh with sunny skies. January to February is colder, but until April it remains dry and pleasant and in the late springs the famous rhododendrons bloom spectacularly flooding the entire valley with colors. March and April are also favorite months to visit for trekking in the Himalayas; there will be still chill in the air on some mornings and nights which add to the sense of adventure without being too cold.
